Planning roof work before adding solar panels
Solar panels add another project to the roof you already have. Before the mounting layout is settled, consider whether that roof needs work and how roofing and solar responsibilities will meet.
Start with the roof you will be fastening into
Panels and mounting equipment can make future access to the covered roof more involved. If a replacement is already under discussion, coordinating it before the solar installation can avoid arranging removal and reinstallation simply to reach the covering. That does not mean every roof needs replacement before solar. The existing condition and proposed attachment matter.

Put the two scopes beside each other
The roofing and solar proposals should make the point of responsibility clear where attachments penetrate or meet the roof. Who provides the flashing detail? Who addresses a leak at an attachment? What roof access is needed if the covering beneath the array later requires work? These are scope questions to resolve while the project can still be coordinated.
Product and installation warranties can also have different issuers and conditions. A solar agreement does not automatically extend a roofing warranty, and a roofing agreement does not establish the panel installation’s coverage. Keep the terms with the project records and identify the appropriate contact for each type of problem.
Rogers has a separate solar permit process
The city’s residential-projects guidance lists a permit process for residential solar panels. For a roof-mounted system it calls for a stamped structural engineer’s roof analysis letter along with electrical and layout documentation. That is a solar-project requirement, not a blanket rule about an ordinary reroof.
